The Old Mainstreet Theater
Chapter 1:
The gang was trading goodies out of their lunch boxes
with each other. When Nicky Birdy walked over to their
table and asked them
"Hi guys, would you like to buy some chewy bars for
two bucks each. All the money will help restore
the old theater on Main Street."
It's cool that the town donated the theater
to the school's drama club. So, they can restore it into
a playhouse." Cookie smiled. As she handed Nicky her two
dollars
"It's like a dream come true. I can't wait until it's
done and we can start working on some cool plays."
Nicky happily answered
"I'm sure, is it true? That Ms. Goldfish, already got an idea
for your first play?" Daisy Penguin asked her
"I'm not sure. But I also heard some rumors that she found
an old script hidden inside an old movie reel.
"While cleaning out one of the screening rooms, that got her
really excited." Nicky began
"Wow, do you know what the script is about?" Cookie asked
"Like I said, it's only rumors. But supposal it's a who-done-it
mystery with so many twists and turns." That will
keep you guessing until the very end." Nicky answered
"Well, hopefully, the rumors are true." Vicky Dragonfly smiled
Nicky also smiled, "You and me both."
"But besides fundraising, we're also looking for volunteers
to help out with the cleaning and repairs. You guys
wouldn't be interested, would you?" She added
"Sure, when can we start?" Tommy Cub asked
Chapter 2:
The next afternoon, the gang headed out for the old
theater
"Wow, I forgot how creepy looking this place was. I
bet it's haunted." Sammy Turtle began
Seriously, dude, for the billionth time. Just because a
place looks creepy doesn't mean that it's haunted."
Tommy scowled at him
"Maybe, I heard the reason this place closed down was
because the owner. Couldn't keep up with the payments after
the Three Crown Theater opened." Plus, not many kids
go to the movies anymore.
They would rather rent or stream them online."
Daisy added
"Yeah, it's a shame. Since nothing beats movie popcorn!"
Cookie laughed
"I totally agree with that." A voice from behind also laughed
They turned around and noticed that Nicky was standing
behind them smiling
"Hey guys, I'm happy that you decided to come."
When they walked into the lobby, they were impressed by
how much work had been done already
"Oh wow, this place is starting to look awesome," Tommy said
"Thanks, we've been working hard trying to get it done.
Before the end of the school year." So, are you ready to go
to work? The rest of the crew are working inside the
screening rooms." Nicky told them
Shortly afterwards, they got to know the other
kids from the drama club
"I know Nicky would never tell you guys this. So, I feel it's
up to me to tell you all in why." This place really closed."
Lenny Lion began. "I just hope that it doesn't freak you out
to much that you all decide to quit."
He added laughing
"Whoa, we just found Sammy's long, long lost twin,"
Tommy whispered over to the others. Sammy gave him a
Dirty look, then asked Lenny
"So, you think it's haunted, too?"
"Nope, maybe cursed, but not haunted. Rumor has it that
the old owner was a drunk with some serious money troubles."
He was so in the hole that on the night he was going
to close the doors for good. He got not only so drunk but went
completely nutty and hung himself from the balcony."
Lenny answered him
What?
Chapter 3:
"They said he did it, hoping that would keep the doors
from closing. Since kids would want to come and see if
he'd haunt the place or not."
Lenny added
"Wow, Lenny,
I don't get how you believe that dumb
story." Nicky frowned
"It's not a dumb story, Nicky." Lenny began. And before he
could finish, the lights in the theater went off
"Oh, very funny, who turned off the lights?"
Nicky yelled. And before any of them could reply, the
lights came back on
"Now, that was weird." Daisy frowned once they walked
out of the room
"Not as weird as that," Lenny added as he pointed
towards the balcony
Hanging from it was a fake swinging dummy
"Nice, Lenny. If I were you, I'd take that down
before Ms. Goldfish sees it." Nicky smirked
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, Nicky. But this wasn't
my doing, I was standing right next to you." When
the lights went off." Lenny shrugged
Chapter 4:
The next day, when they arrived at the theater, Nicky
came up to them. It was obvious that she was
very upset
"What's the matter?" Cookie asked her
"Ms. Goldfish found out what happened yesterday and
freaked out. And decided to put the whole project
on hold until she finds out who did it." I just wish Lenny
had just kept his mouth shut about all those
dumb stories." Nicky began
"Gee Nicky, I'm flattered that you think so highly of me
and believe my dumb stories. Have so much
power over what Ms. Goldfish does and thinks."
Lenny interrupted
"Sorry, Lenny, I'm just so upset. We've been working so
hard for what looks like nothing now." Nicky sighed
"Cheer up, Nicky, a little birdy just told me that our
awesome mayor's engaged with all the media attention
This project is receiving and how it's making the town
And his ego looks beyond amazing." That there's no way he'd
Ever have anything stop this from getting it done."
He laughed
Chapter 5:
Three days later, Vicky walked into their clubhouse
With the biggest smile on her face
"Wow, aren't we happy?" Cookie teased
"Beyond, since I think what's going on at the old theater."
She smiled
"You do? What?" Cookie asked
"Who cares what? Who?" Tommy added
"Last night I was telling my cousin about what was going
on. And she told me that Mr. Frogger, the old owner,
had a secret partner." Who was robbing him blind to pay off
his gambling debts. So, when the theater had no choice
but to close the doors for good." It was he who jumped
off the balcony." Vicky began
"Oh wow, how come we never heard about this?"
Cookie asked her
"I wondered the same thing also." Vicky smiled. "So, I
did a bit more research until I found out who the
secret partner was," Vicky replied
Who they wanted to know. Vicky's smile grew wider
before she answered
"His name was Alan Stones, and the reason none of this
was ever reported is." Because he was the mayor's younger
brother. Who, I'm guessing, probably made up all those
dumb stories about Mr. Frogger," And is donating the
building to the school so we'd never find out the truth
about what really happened."
"Whoa, Vicky, that sounds a bit far-fetched."
Cookie told her
"Maybe, but I guess there's only one way to find out
Why don't we just go and ask him?" Vicky shrugged
Chapter 6:
When they arrived at the theater, they found Nicky
and the town's mayor talking in the main lobby
"Good afternoon, kids, I was telling Nicky what a great
job you're all doing." Mayor Stones smiled
"Thanks, Mayor Stones, can I ask you a quick
question?" Vicky asked
"Sure," He answered
"Were you the one who made up those stories about
Mr. Frogger? When it was really your brother Alan, who
had a drinking, gambling problem." And jumped off the
balcony?"
For a moment, he looked like he was punched in the face
"Excuse me, I don't know what you're talking about?"
He muttered
"Oh really, then why does this article that I found
online? Reads that you do?"
It even has a picture of the two of you when
you were younger." Vicky frowned
"Fine, I'll admit part of me knew that this was a bad idea
I should've just ordered for this place to be torn down.
"Instead of going through all this foolishness."
Mayor Stones growled
"What!" Nicky cried out in shock
"For years, all my father spoke about was how this place
destroyed my dumb brother's life. How it was my job as
his older brother to protect him." What a joke!
"That's all I did was protect the little drunk that was until
that jerk Frogger. Had the nerve to try and blackmail me
by saying he'd expose all of Alan's troubles and how I
just covered them up, I laughed." Not only did I refuse
I told him that I'd turn it around, steal his theater away
from him, and then donate it and have the town love and
respect me more for doing so."
Mayor Stones began
"Whoa, so Vicky was right?" Tommy frowned." You did
all of this to keep your brother and his problems a big
secret?"
"Well, isn't she brilliant?" Mayor Stones snorted
"You really believe that this plan was going to work?"
Cookie asked him
"Of course, it's a great plan. Well, it was a great plan
until you nosy kids started sticking your noses into my
business." Which is a bad mistake. Who's going to believe
any of you?" Mayor Stone smirked
"Sorry, Mayor Stones, but I'm afraid that I've some bad
news for you." A voice from behind them interrupted
They turned to see that Ms. Goldfish was standing there
holding her cell phone. Mayor Stones was about to rush towards
her when two police officers walked inside the
theater
Shortly afterwards
"Wow, can you believe that just happened? If he wasn't
so out there, I'd feel sorry for him."
Nicky told them
"Not me, I can still hear him yelling from outside. How
we should be arrested for trying to blackmail the mayor."
Tommy smirked
Chapter 7:
A few weeks later, the theater had its grand opening
"Oh wow, I'm so nervous, it seems like the whole town
is out there. What if I go out there and fall off the stage
or something?" Nicky said after she peeked out the
curtains
"Stop worrying, you're going to be great.
I guess Mayor Stones, in all his plotting, forgot a
major rule in revenge." Vicky told her
What?
"That no matter how many rumors or lies you spread
You can't control what others are going to believe."
Vicky answered
"I just hope that he gets all the help that he needs. I've
to thank you guys, I don't think none of this would
be happening." If you didn't figure out what he was up to."
Nicky told her
"Thanks, but it was actually all of us who helped solve
this mystery." Vicky smiled
"Okay, you two, enough with the gloom and doom talk
Nicky, you're up in five." Lenny smiled
